Britney Spears & Dr. Luke officially didn’t rip off The Bellamy Brothers
The legal system has confirmed what was already obvious: Britney Spears’ song “Hold It Against Me,” which contains a popular cheesy pickup line, did not rip off the Bellamy Brothers song “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me,” containing the same popular cheesy pickup line. So says a Florida court filing resolving a defamation lawsuit Dr. Luke filed against the Bellamys for suggesting he ripped them off.
As part of the filing, the Bellamy Brothers acknowledged the lack of plagiarism or wrongdoing, which should have been fairly clear to begin with. The Bellamy Brothers’ song (listen hereGroucho Marx got to the pickup line before any of them. Basically, they don’t even make
ripoffssimilarities like they used to. Or lawsuits. You can debate whether they make songs the way they used to.Would you hold it against them?
